FEAR AND PHOBIA

April 21, 2021 Anxiety Disorder

While both fear and phobia share similar symptoms, understanding the difference between fear and phobia is important because they are very different problems. One is normal (fear) and the other is severe (phobia). Therefore, coping strategies are very different.

Comparison- Fear or Phobia
Fear of responding emotionally to a real or visible threat is imminent. It’s a very common feeling. While, phobia is a anxiety disorder that involves a fear that exceeds the status quo. Fear is an abomination when it causes disruption to daily activities.

In terrifying situations, some may be able to control their fears and overcome adversity without much suffering. On the other hand, phobia creates a strong reaction to fear. People with phobia will do their best to avoid certain situations, things or places and may even face anxiety when the threat is not approaching.

Phobic replies
The phobic response often comes with avoidance and procrastination. People with phobia are constantly distracted from normal daily activities by thoughts of a frightening situation that may arise. Therefore, phobia strategies include not only coping with the situation but also other symptoms of phobia.

Now the first thing you should do is contact a knowledgeable psychologist who will help you build a clear picture of your diagnosis and help you build a treatment plan. One of the most widely used treatments for phobias is behavioral therapy (CBT). Techniques such as breathing exercises, meditation also seem to be helpful in the event of panic attacks and regular exercise helps to produce the hormone ‘feeling good’.
